From Panic to Professional Judgement: What is AI really teaching us about teacher education?

28 Apr 2026

There are moments in education when you feel the conversation genuinely shift, and attending Liz Birchinall’s workshop on AI integration in primary teacher education was one of those for me. As a member of the Institute’s advisory board, and as someone who works in higher education at the intersection of flexible assessment, employability and responsible AI, I spend a lot of time thinking about how universities respond to generative technologies. What this session did was push me to look earlier. To teacher education. To schools. To the professionals who will shape how the next generation understands and uses AI.
